Dr. Antu Radhakrishnan grew up in the chicago area.  While always interested in medicine, he did not decide on Veterinary Medicine until graduating from college. After college he relocated to Lexington, KY and worked for Dr. Mike Gentry and Dr. Todd Marcum for two years at which point he was admitted to the University of Georgia College Of Veterinary Medicine.  During Veterinary school Dr. Radhakrishnan developed an interest in specialty care including surgery and internal medicine due to a rapid increase in the need and desire for specialized care for domestic animals.  He went on to complete an internship in small animal medicine and surgery, followed by a residency in small animal internal medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.  He is  board-certified in internal medicine and a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.  Dr. Radhakrishnan moved back to Lexington in the Summer of 2005 with his wife and four daughters.  He enjoys spending time playing with his children, watching and playing soccer, and woodworking. 

Internal Medicine is a diverse field that deals with diseases of the internal organs.  This can include diseases of the heart, brain, abdominal organs, lungs, and immune system along with infectious diseases and cancers.  Effective medical care requires an accurate diagnosis coupled with appropriate therapy.  Internal medicine utilizes both sides of this equation.  There is also a strong movement toward minimally invasive procedures for achieving this care.  These procedures include lithotripsy, laparoscopy, and interventional radiology.  Considered standard of care in human medicine, these services are increasingly being offered in veterinary medicine as they improve recovery time and quality of life.
