Dr. Nancy Zimmerman is board-certified in surgery and started working with BVS in 2008.  She is available the first week of each month with service to be expanding this summer.  When Dr. Zimmerman is not in Lexington, she is working on the surgical service at one of several veterinary school teaching hospitals around the United States

Dr. Sarah Daniel

We are pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Sarah Daniel as our permanent full-time surgeon.  Dr. Daniel graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in 2006.  She went on to complete her internship and surgical residency at the AnimalMedicalCenter inNew York City. The AMC has long been recognized as a world leader in veterinary medicine and boasts the largest and busiest hospital in the country. Their surgical service performs over 7,000 procedures per year which offers their residents training that is unmatched by any other surgical residency program. Dr. Daniel is extensively trained in soft tissue, orthopedic, and neurologic surgery with special interests in minimally-invasive, microvascular, oncologic, and orthopedic surgery.

Dr. Daniel received the Tennessee Veterinary Medical Association Senior Award and was voted Intern of the Year at the AMC, an honor she received out of a class of 25 doctors.  Aside from other honors she received throughout veterinary school, Dr Daniel is also very involved in her community.  She was the project coordinator for the AMC’s participation in a testicular and prostate cancer research fundraiser which raised over $4,500.  She has also volunteered for numerous school, children’s, and animal programs such as Puppies Behind Bars, an inmate program to train service and explosive detection dogs, and animal-assisted therapy programs. 

At Bluegrass Veterinary Specialists, we focus on providing personalized patient care and client service in collaboration with you, the referring veterinarian.  We appreciate the uniqueness of each case and do our best to develop a treatment plan that will satisfy the needs and desires of each pet owner, patient, and referring veterinarian.  Dr. Daniel will continue this practice as she expands our surgery service.  Her communication skills and attention to detail including superior patient care has been recognized by her mentors at the AMC and her clients.  We are excited to welcome a surgeon with her skills and outstanding character toLexington.  She will be immediately available for soft tissue surgery and orthopedic consults as she sets up our orthopedic and neurologic surgery service.  Appointments can be scheduled by referral starting August 1.  Dr. Daniel looks forward to building an excellent relationship with you and your clients.
